Chinese Government Scholarship: choose the right route

Understand who receives your application, how nomination works, and why university admission and scholarship selection are separate.

Start with the receiving authority

Campus China describes several routes: bilateral arrangements handled by the home country’s dispatching authority, university-administered schemes, and programmes run through designated organisations. First choose a route for which you are eligible, then find its current annual notice. A list of participating universities is a discovery tool, not confirmation that a programme is accepting applications.

The application category and agency number belong to a particular receiving authority and scheme. Use the values in that scheme’s current instructions. Do not copy a Type A or Type B choice, an agency number, or a deadline from somebody else’s scholarship application.

Follow the application sequence

Shortlist a university and programme, check its academic and language criteria, and obtain the admission-related documents required by your route. Complete the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System application and any separate university or nominating-authority application. Follow up with that receiving authority; submitting an online form alone does not establish nomination or an award.

The general guide does not set one deadline for every route. Record the scholarship, university and nomination deadlines separately. A pre-admission letter supports an application but does not by itself award a scholarship.

Budget from the exact award terms

The general scholarship guide lists tuition, accommodation or an accommodation allowance, medical insurance and a living allowance. Its monthly living figures are RMB 2,500 for undergraduates, RMB 3,000 for master’s students and general scholars, and RMB 3,500 for doctoral students and senior scholars. Check your specific award notice for coverage and conditions.

Admission eligibility, scholarship eligibility and HSK preparation are three related tasks. Passing an HSK threshold can satisfy a language requirement; it does not replace degree, academic, nomination or programme-specific criteria.
